2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the Sewol Ferry Disaster MAUM STUDIO designed the graphics and space for the exhibition “Memory, Stare, Wish” commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Sewol Ferry Disaster held at the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art.The motif of the key visual design is the warmly shining Sun Glitter.The artist members who make up the memorial exhibition are like a connected sea and resemble Sun Glitter, so they appear as light to us.

Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art (GMoMA) presents a memorial exhibition Memory, Stare, Wish to honor the memory of the Sewol ferry tragedy that occurred a decade ago on April 16. This exhibition is intended to remember the victims, comfort those living in today’s world that is still rife with disasters, while exploring where we, as a society, should be headed. As a member of the Ansan community, GMoMA hopes the exhibition will be an opportunity to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the sinking of the ferry with local citizens, empathize with the wounds the tragedy has left and think about what it means to be a community. Once considered the source of life, the sea is now a reminder of sorrow and pain. While knowing that it can never be the same place as before, the exhibition Memory, Stare, Wish invites visitors to reconsider the meaning of the sea. After all, the sea that caused the tragedy 10 years ago is us (society) and we are the ones who need to accept the scars and move on.
